Deutsche Bank Art

Posted in art by //0 mo on April 1, 2009

The Deutsche Bank has assembled the world’s biggest corporate art collection, which today constitutes 50,000 works of art, displayed in some 1,000 branches and exhibitions around the world.
My concept was to invite a head representative of the Deutsche Bank art collection to the annual showcase of the Academy of Media Arts, giving the Deutsche Bank Art an unrestricted opportunity to present their concept of collection. This presentation, on what so ever, would embody my contribution tho the showcase and is hence my artwork.
Eventually, after 3 years, Friedhelm Hütte, global head of Deutsche Bank Art, agreed to participate under the given premises, but could not take part himself, due to scheduling. Head representative Britta Faerber agreed to participate instead.
The event was scheduled on 17.07.08 3 pm & I arranged the event, promotion, as well as the train tickets.
On the morning of 17.07.08 Britta Faerber cancelled via email.
Afterwards Britta Faerber sent a hand written card to apologize, together with 2 books of the ongoing projects of the Deutsche Bank Art (link link).

Window

Posted in art by //0 mo on April 1, 2009

The premise was to do an artwork for the Academy of Media Arts, Cologne.
I wanted to reduce the art work to the mere process of completion of a task.
Furthermore I wanted to deal with the Academy of Media Arts Cologne, both physically and institutional as a process of art production.
The maximum budget was 1000 €.
My concept proposed to replace one window by an equivalent one in the seminar room of Julia Scher, professor at the Academy of Media Arts, Cologne. The cost estimated by a local glass company was 1444,44 € of which I agreed to cover the missing 144,44 €.
The project was officially submitted to the process of project approval and successive approved by the authorities and professors respectively in charge. Furthermore contract over the project was signed. Ensuing the work was assigned to a local glass company.
On the verge of the production, the head of the school vetoed the completion of the art work due to an unreasonable use of the budget.
Subsequent, the work lead to a discussions in various committees and panels about restriction of art and sense-making of art. The complete board of professors backed up the concept and opposed the decision of the head of the school.
Eventually the project was approved, but could not be completed, du to a fire in the building and a relocation of the seminar room into a new building.
The project was accepted by the professor in charge as an accomplished task.

TAKE A PICTURE OR NOT

Posted in art by //0 mo on March 23, 2009

Single-use cameras were installed in the festival toilets of the Quart Festival (norway, 2004). The cameras are right in the center of the person’s view  who uses the toilet. Above them is a sign reading “TAKE A PICTURE OR NOT”.

Its purpose is to set the person in a position of voyeurism, both as a  „victim“ and as a „perpetrator“, as it is his choice to take picture of his privacy or not. The possibility of self-decision is set as an outline and plays an important part in the concept  of the installation.

The concern of the work is about the ambivalence between voyeurism and  self-manifestation urge in our society.

For this purpose the toilet is used as an interface where every festival visitor has to show up. Furthermore the toilet is a symbolization of privacy.
